SEATTLE, WA (September 7 ,2022) – A gleaming flotilla of world-class power and sailing yachts arrives at South Lake Union next week with the opening of the Boats Afloat Show, September 15-18. It is the Pacific Northwest’s largest floating boat show and spotlights more than 140 spectacular luxury craft and activities for the entire family.

The show features spectacular 60-foot-plus motor yachts, impressive sailboat offerings, recreational trawlers and tugs, power and sail catamarans, luxury cruising/fishing models, and high-end cruisers ideal for Northwest waters. A Northwest boating tradition since 1978, the event is presented by the Northwest Yacht Brokers Association (NYBA).

With leading brokers and dealers on hand to share information about the vessels on display, the show is an opportunity for showgoers to explore, dream and discover the latest boating lifestyle trends. Scores of high quality shoreside exhibitors complement the on-the-water display with innovations in boating technology, accessories, services and more.

A full schedule of how-to activities, tasty dining options and great local jazz talents

For “newbie” sailors the Seattle Sailing Club will offer two, 3-hour “Intro to Sailing” courses aboard two J80 sailboats each day of the show. Advance registration ($50), which includes admission to the show and other benefits, is required. The club will also provide free, 45-minute rides aboard J80 and J105 sailboats at the North Dock each day of the show.

You won’t spend any time in the galley with plenty of casual dining choices within the show to tempt your taste buds. The 90-foot M/V Olympic Star at the end of East Dock will be serving excellent BBQ and specialty cocktails, or check out the lively taco bar on the North Dock. With ample patio seating, take in the view from Lakeside at South Lake Union and sample hand-crafted cocktails and seasonally inspired bites.

Looking for great recipe tips to take away? Join Trinity Mack, Culinary Director for Waterways Cruises and Events and Lakeside at South Lake Union for her timely “Fall Ingredients & Creative Garnishing” cooking demos at the East Patio.

Adding to the festivities, top local jazz musicians bring their talents daily to the Music Stage including Stanley Alleyne, Scratch Cats Jazz Band, the Roosevelt Jazz Trio, The Wednesday Club and Ballard High School’s Ballard Jazz Combo and Ballard Brass Bands.

Young boaters will not be left out as the Center for Wooden Boats provides a workshop area where kids can build their own toy boats to take home.
