Opening Thursday: Boats Afloat Show Arrives This Week with More Than 140 Distinctive World-Class Power and Sailing Craft, “How-to” Opportunities, and Tons of Family Fun

The Northwest’s biggest on-the-water boat show runs Thursday through Sunday, September 15-18

SEATTLE, WA (September 12, 2022) – World-class power and sail boats dock in Seattle this week with the opening of the Boats Afloat Show, Thursday through Sunday at South Lake Union. The biggest show in recent years, it is the Northwest’s largest floating boat show, spotlighting more than 140 spectacular luxury craft, learning opportunities and activities for the entire family.

Encompassing luxury, distinctive designs, power and performance, the show spotlights 70-foot-plus motor yachts, impressive sailboat offerings, luxury cruising/fishing models, high-end cruisers ideal for Northwest waters, recreational trawlers and tugs, power and sail catamarans, and many more.

With leading brokers and dealers on hand to share information about the vessels on display, the show is an opportunity for show-goers to learn about the latest boating lifestyle trends. Scores of high quality shoreside exhibitors complement the on-the-water displays with innovations in boating technology, accessories, services and more. A Northwest boating tradition since 1978, the event is presented by the Northwest Yacht Brokers Association (NYBA).

A stunning collection of craft to discover and explore

A sampling of the show’s standout “Boats of Note” include the luxurious 80-foot Orient Express Ocean Alexander featuring three ensuite staterooms and two crew staterooms; The spacious new Apollonian 52 is both rugged and luxurious and designed for Northwest cruising; The dazzling, exceptionally fast 50-plus knot commuter, the 28-foot BRABUS Shadow 500 Cabin; The Fleming 65, a former Yachts Magazine worldwide “best in class” winner; Dubbed the “SUV of the Sea,” the 41-foot Boston Whaler 405 Conquest delivers as a luxurious adventure-ready cruiser; The 70-foot Outer Reef 700 Classic Motoryacht, an exploration yacht blending timeless style with performance; The North Pacific 53’ Euro Pilothouse, an excellent long range cruiser with a decidedly modern feel; The 27’ Blackfin 272CC for journeys to distant fishing grounds or hopping between sandbars; The extremely maneuverable Sabre 58 makes its West Coast debut; and The Regulator Series (23, 25, 25), seriously tough sportfishers known for their exceptional fit & finish.

For those exploring boating opportunities, the Seattle Sailing Club will offer two 3-hour “Intro to Sailing” courses aboard a pair of J80 sailboats each day of the show. Advance registration ($50) is required, which includes admission to the show and other benefits. The club will also provide free 45-minute rides aboard the beautiful J80 and J105 sailboats each day of the show.

Tempting the taste buds of show-goers, the 90-foot M/V Olympic Star will serve excellent BBQ and specialty cocktails. A lively taco bar will be located on North Dock and attendees can take in the view from Lakeside at South Lake Union and enjoy ample hand-crafted cocktails and seasonally inspired bites.

For timely culinary tips aboard your boat’s galley or at home, Trinity Mack, Culinary Director for Waterways Cruises and Events and Lakeside at South Lake Union shares “Fall Ingredients & Creative Garnishing” in free cooking demos at the East Patio.

Adding to the festivities, top local jazz musicians bring their talents daily to the Music Stage including Stanley Alleyne, Scratch Cats Jazz Band, the Roosevelt Jazz Trio, The Wednesday Club, and Ballard High School’s Ballard Jazz Combo and Ballard Brass Bands. Plus, kids can build their own toy boats to take home at a free workshop Saturday and Sunday provided by the Center for Wooden Boats.

Hours for the four-day event are Thursday and Friday (September 15-16), 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday (September 17), 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday (September 18), 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $16 for adults 18 and over, $5 for teens ages 12-17, and free for children 11 and under.
