History of Boat Shows in Seattle
Boat shows have a long history in Seattle dating back some 60 years. Since Seattle’s first known show set sail in 1947, Seattle’s boat shows have traditionally occupied some of the most prominent venues in the Emerald City including the former Seattle Center Coliseum and Kingdome, Qwest Field Convention Center, Shilshole Bay Marina and Chandler’s Cove on South Lake Union.
In its 32nd year, the Lake Union Boats Afloat Show is the largest floating boat show on the west coast. Over 300 major boat shows world-wide are tracked by the National Marine Manufacturers Association.
Attractions at the Boats Afloat Show
Around the America’s Ocean Watch will be on display after completing it’s voyage of over a year and landing in Seattle, WA. The mission of inspiring, educating, and engaging citizens of the Americas to protect our fragile oceans began on May 31st on the 64 foot steel cutter designed boat that was laid out for extensive long-range voyaging and expedition style sailing. ATA seeks to raise awareness of ocean health issues such as polar ice melt, coral reef health and ocean acidification. Meet with the scientists and crew that made this voyage possible and inspired people all around the Americas.
